Named after Edward Everett an American statesman and orator. He was Sec. of State in the cabinet of Pres. Fillmore. He was a strong supporter of the Union. Everett’s name headed the list of Presidential electors of Mass. and he cast the vote for Lincoln in 1864. He spoke for two and a half hours before Lincoln at Gettysburg.
